Boris Johnson has warned it may be "bumpy through to Christmas" and beyond as the UK deals with coronavirus. He said the government was taking a "balanced" approach between saving lives and protecting the economy. It comes as a further 22,961 UK cases are reported, as previously unreported cases are added amid a technical issue. Public Health England said an investigation into a technical glitch with the government's coronavirus dashboard identified 15,841 cases which were not included in the daily reports between 25 September and 2 October. It said more than 75% of those cases - 11,968 - should have been reported between 30 September and 2 October. But, the prime minister warned there could be "a very tough winter for all of us", adding: "I tell you in all candour, it will continue to be bumpy through to Christmas and may even be bumpy beyond."
The allegations centre around the town of Beni, one of the epicentres of the country's 10th and most deadly Ebola outbreak which started in 2018. In an interview, 51 women recounted multiple incidents of abuse and claimed the men who exploited them identified themselves as being with the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, Oxfam, Médecins Sans Frontières, World Vision, medical charity Alima and the UN's migration agency, IOM. The majority of women said they were plied with drinks, others ambushed in offices and hospitals, and some locked in rooms by men who promised jobs or threatened to fire them if they did not comply.
Manchester United are in talks to sign Atalanta winger Amad Traore. United have been monitoring Traore, 18, for the past three years as he came through the ranks at the Italian club. The Ivorian scored on his Serie A debut in October 2019 and has made three substitute appearances in Italy's top flight. The club are also in talks to sign winger Facundo Pellistri from Uruguayan side Penarol, on the recommendation of former striker Diego Forlan. If United are successful in agreeing a deal for Traore, it is expected that the player will stay with Atalanta until January. Traore has not featured for Gian Piero Gasperini's side this season but was the second player born in 2002 to score in one Europe's top five leagues - England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain - behind Barcelona forward Ansu Fati. Meanwhile, United have been watching 18-year-old Pellistri for a year after being alerted to him by ex-Penarol manager Forlan and he will join immediately if the deal gets done in time.
The 27-year-old, who has one cap for his country, moves to Old Trafford for a fee of 15m euros (£13.6m) plus 2m euros (£1.8m) in add-ons. Telles scored 26 goals and made more than 50 assists for Porto after joining them from Galatasaray in 2016. He said joining United, a club with "prestige", was a "huge honour". "You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here," he added. "I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can't wait to pull on the famous shirt."
